Magnum
Magnum
The Magnum is an obvious departure from scaled
designs. The roll rate is insane, at any speed, and
just freaky in a power on dive. If you are into rolling
harriers, super knife edges, and all around smooth
flying, this one is for you. My preferred power
system would be the DS2826-18 with a  9” prop and
a 600mAh SL battery. Flying with the optional
horizontal fuselage pieces is just as fun, as not, for
me. This lighter setup is cool running, and really
lets me practice in a lower slower pace. The
reduced power offered by the 9” prop helps me
warm up for an ARFs power to weight ratio. The
suggested prop for this motor is a 10” for best
power. Amperage draw with the 2826-18 is not a
problem for the GT 450 battery at all. Weight with
this motor and a GT450 battery is about 11oz, 12.2
oz with an 850 pack. We've done some testing with
this design in larger models, and are continuing to
develop it. There is a new 48” in the shop for
testing, as well as thoughts of a lighter outdoor
version. Many thanks to Troy Hamm for his hard
work and input in developing both sizes of Magnum
as well as all his work on all of our other planes.
